Elm Street Cemetery - Lancaster, Ohio
On November 25, 2004 the Grave Hoppers spent a chilly Thanksgiving day exploring cemeteries all around Lancaster, in Fairfield County. Perhaps the oldest of these cemeteries, and defintiely
the oldest in Lancaster was the Elm Street Cemetery. This was the original town cemetery for Lancaster, and is still used, although rarely. The claim to fame for this little cemetery
is that the parents of General William T. Sherman are buried here, beneath matching Obelisks. This cemetery is located at the corner of Mt. Pleasant street and Lawrence street in Lancaster.
There are many family plots in this little old cemetery, but perhaps the most mysterious and heartbreaking is the Cooper family; a mother and five children who all died in 1968.
I'm going to do some more research on this one, because my curiosity just needs to be satiated. Check this cemetery out if you get a chance, it's a very tranquil place that is obviously
alive with history. If you need more detailed directions, please email me at Tonee_1986@yahoo.com.
