Green Lawn Abbey - Columbus, Ohio

Green Lawn Abbey is located at 700 Green Lawn Avenue, about a block and a half east of Green Lawn Cemetery. Although not affiliated in any way, as so kindly pointed out to me a couple of times by ladies in the Green Lawn office, this is a way-cool place to check out.
Although Liza and I originally went there in June of 2004, those pictures were lost. The pictures below are from a trip there with Leo in early 2005. Unlike when Liza and I were there, the bottom floor's door had been repaired, but the upper floor door was busted in. This time, however, the bars were secure in place and the questionable lock had been replaced.
To get the pictures you will see below, Leo and I walked completely around the building, and the internal shots we got by shoving our cameras through the gaps in the gate and holding very still.
All that I know about this one is that it was opened in 1927, and Thurston the Magician is buried here. Anyone who is a fan of magic and illusion will know who I'm talking about. The name was used to help bring business in by identifying the large Abbey with the neighboring Cemetery. They are not affiliated, however, the Abbey is quite lovely and I've noticed a lot of work going into it recently. Perhaps this means they want to start reopening it and bringing life back into the beautiful building.
I'm honestly hoping to get permission to go into this one and seek out Thurston the Magician. Unless you have permission, however, please don't try busting in. They've installed new security systems, and breaking in is illegal. I can't advocate such a disturbance. If, however, you go against my advice of obtaining permission, don't call me for bail; I'm a poor college kid.

To get to the Abbey, take I-71 to Green Lawn Avenue. Head west, and the entrance to the abbey is about a block and a half before Green Lawn Cemetery. It's on the right-hand side, and is now wide open and easy to see. The openness hopefully will deter vandals. Enter this one only with permission, please. Once again, click the picture for a larger view (in a new window) and click the button for a brief description of the photo or anything interesting I felt you should know. **NOTE: The caption links are pop-ups!
