Ohio University, Athens

Built in 1804, Ohio University is the oldest school in the Northwest Territory. Full of history, legends, and even a bit of eccentricity, Athens has been a fascination of mine for years. Now that I'm an Ohio University student, I have prime opportunity to expand my photo-documentation of one more historic place in Ohio. This section is new, and therefore small, but will soon grow.

The pictures below are of the Brown House, on College Green (the central part of Campus). Legend has it that this house was once owned by a kind, matronly figure who allowed Athens children to play in her yard and was a fan of the University for all that it did. When Ms. Brown died, her house was willed to Ohio University, and it stands today at the top of Jeff Hill, just a skip down the road from the College gate on Union Street. The legend part is that her ghost can be seen from the front window to the left of the door watching campus life, or in one of the back windows watching the shades of past children playing in her backyard. I haven't heard anyone actually encountering this one, but the building has been well-maintained by OU and is currently used for offices.
