Windsor Memory Garden - Windsor, Ontario
In August of 2005, my boyfriend Leo decided to take me to Windsor, Ontario, Canada for my 19th birthday. Just a few minutes from our hotel (less than a mile away, actually) was Windsor Memory Garden. This is a very modern cemetery, and is by far the youngest in the city of Windsor, however it was the only one I had time to explore. This one is very special, as it's the first non-American cemetery that I have explored, and it is also the first cemetery I have experienced where people use their own native languages and cultural influences on their stones. In the US, I've occassionally come across a stone with hebrew or arabic prayers on them, but nothing to the extent I found in this cemetery. The pictures really speak for themselves here. I'm hoping to go back to Windsor sometime next summer, and if I do, I'll be sure to not only get more pictures but also to talk to someone in the office about this beautiful and culturally rich cemetery. I asked a few people, and of all the cemeteries in the Windsor metro area, this one is the only one with no stories or rumors of hauntings; it's considered more of a park than a cemetery to many in the area. I confess that many of the languages, mainly the Asian ones have me stumped as to their true identities. If anyone could help me out with what they really are, I'd greatly appreciate it.
